Terms of Use
Effective: October 2026
These Terms govern your use of Falae (the “App”) and this website (the “Site”), published by Emanuel Braz. By downloading, installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms.
1. What Falae is
Falae is a voice dictation app for macOS that lives in the menu bar. You hold a shortcut, speak, and the recognized text is inserted wherever your cursor is. Recognition runs on your Mac. Optional profiles use Apple Intelligence to clean up, rewrite or translate the text.
2. License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the App, for personal or professional purposes, on any number of Macs you own or operate. The App is licensed, not sold, and we keep all intellectual property rights in it.
You may not:
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the App, except where the law expressly allows it;
- sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the App in any form;
- remove or alter any proprietary notice, branding or signature;
- use the App to develop a competing product;
- use the App in violation of any applicable law.
3. Third-party components and models
The App includes open source components, whose license notices are in About Falae › Acknowledgements. Speech recognition models are downloaded from Hugging Face and remain under their authors' licenses. Rewriting and translation depend on Apple Intelligence, whose availability varies by Mac, language and region, and whose use is subject to Apple's terms.
4. The text is your responsibility
Speech recognition and rewriting are probabilistic: the App can mishear a word, a name or a number, and a rewriting profile can change the meaning of what you said. Review the text before you send, publish or run it, especially in terminals, code editors and important messages.
You are responsible for what you dictate and for what the App inserts at your request, and for having the right to use the content the App reads on your Mac, such as the text around the cursor and what is on screen in profiles that use it.
5. Permissions
To work, the App needs the macOS Microphone and Accessibility permissions, and optionally Screen Recording. The Privacy Policy explains what each one allows and what the App does with it. You can revoke them at any time in System Settings.
6. Updates
The App checks for updates with Sparkle, and every update is verified against a cryptographic signature before it is installed. You choose whether checks are automatic. We may change, add or remove features in future versions.
7. Privacy
Your use of the App and the Site is also subject to our Privacy Policy. In short: your voice, your text and your screen do not leave your Mac, there is no account or telemetry, and the App uses the internet only to download speech models and check for updates.
8. Early version
The App is an early version. Features may be added, changed or removed without notice, and recognition quality is still being measured.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE APP AND THE SITE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not guarantee that recognition will be accurate or that the App will work without interruptions or errors.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP OR THE SITE, INCLUDING DAMAGES CAUSED BY TEXT THAT WAS RECOGNIZED, REWRITTEN OR INSERTED INCORRECTLY.
Nothing in these Terms removes rights that the law grants to consumers and that cannot be limited by contract.
11. Termination
You may stop using the App and uninstall it at any time. The license ends automatically if you breach these Terms.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes, and material changes will be announced in the App's release notes. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the new Terms.
13. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. The courts of São Paulo, Brazil, are chosen to resolve any dispute, without prejudice to a consumer's right to sue in the courts of their own domicile.
